After execution of the 1st stage of Tamshui River Pollution Control Sequent Implementation Plan, EPA raised the 2nd stage plan (phase 1) from 2008 to speed up the water quality improvement. The tasks of 2nd stage plan (phase 1) include the industry inspection, the sewerage engineering, optimized operation of Dry Weather Flow interception system, and the use of on-site wastewater treatment. The execution team includes EPA, Construction and Planning Agency, the Government of Taipei City, Taipei County, Keelung City and Taoyuan County. The current project focuses on the coordination of the execution team. The achievements of this project include: 1. According to the water quality improvement evaluation, the passing rate of the water quality standard for Tamshui River achieved 45% (2008) from 19% (1997). 2. Finished the water quality and flow investigation for 30 drainages. Defined the main source of pollution for Tamshui River. 3. According to the evaluation of 1st stage plan, the goal of “No litter on river.” and “More than 30 species freshwater fish.” are achieved. The decreasing rate of BOD pollutant did not meet the goal. The reason is the sewerage engineering behind the schedule. 4.According to the water quality model, even after the execution 2nd stage plan, the Hsi-Sheng drainage still need to build the interception system to achieve the “No severe pollution” goal. 5. Finished the 10-year chronicles of Tamshui river pollution control and update the website of Tamshui River Pollution Control.
